The heat and humidity of summer make it quite difficult to keep sliding glass doors in good condition. Dirt, moisture, and normal wear and tear may damage the door and its tracks, making it hard to open or close the door.
Use WD-40 or a silicone based lubricant and spray the entire track. As some fans of Home Repair Tutor know, I love using Blaster's Garage Door spray lubricant because it's silicone based and doesn't attract dirt buildup. It costs about $5 and can be found at any Home Depot or Lowes here in the states.
How to Fix a Sliding Glass Door That Sticks
- Remove the sliding door.
- Vacuum the tracks.
- Use hot, soapy water and a brush to clean the tracks.
- Inspect the rollers, and replace them if damaged.
- Lubricate the tracks.
- Reinstall the doors, and adjust the rollers to the correct height.
